Metabolism is a process that takes place in everyone’s body. The degree and the quantity may vary from each individual to another though. Metabolism is an absolutely essential process that your body should undertake to keep you healthy and active. Without the right ideal rate of this process, your body is prone to diseases, injury, and a slower rate of recovery. You may also suffer some ailments that do not have treatment if your rate of the process is sub-optimal. 

The technical definition of this process is the ability of the body to break up foods into a chain of chemical reactions and organisms. The process is to serve three main purposes of converting food to energy, using the energy to build your body, and finally destroy the toxic elements in your body. It can be easily classified into two categories like the ‘Catabolic’ process and the ‘Anabolic’ process.

Catabolic Process of Metabolism

This means the process of breaking down food into energy and generating the required nutrients and chemicals required by the body. For example, converting the food into glucose to pyruvate. This provides the body with the required energy to perform its functions, like keep the heart beating, making the nervous system active. Keeping the mind agile etc. If this process does not happen as per plan, then anything in your body will not have the energy to perform to the best levels. You will start feeling tired, fatigue, and other such symptoms. This can also show symptoms like indigestion.

Anabolism Process

The process of anabolism is the next step to the previous one. The energy generated is now used to build your body by using compounds like proteins, carbs, lipids, and other essential acids. This helps the body to grow. A good anabolic process will show in terms of larger muscles, higher bone density, higher immune system among many other things. 

Metabolism – A combination of both

Catabolism releases energy while the anabolic process consumes it. For your body’s metabolism to function to the best levels, a healthy combination of the above two processes is required. Being deficient in either one of them can lead to a faulty system. This can, in turn, lead to multiple ailments and diseases. This is the same system that decides which food is nutrition and poison for you. A striking feature of this process is that almost all species have a very similar process of metabolism. However, the foods that they can consume can be different for each other.

Foods decide the best combination for your metabolic process. Consume the right kinds of foods and you will see it improving. Do the opposite and you will see it decline. Increase your diet with the ones that are rich in nutrients and antioxidants, will help improve the process significantly and you will see a marked change in the way your body responds. You will have more energy, feel light, and yet have the required nutrition. The number of ailments your body will put to will significantly reduce. Go ahead and make the change.
